The El Camino Story

El Camino Real in English "The Royal Road" or some say "The Kings Highway" was the first European road traveled in North America. Actually, all the lands and all the roads belonged to the Spanish Throne and thus, were all "Royal Roads." The original Conquistadors, Coronado, Anza and Onate were exploring long, lonely and dangerous routes searching for gold but discovered a mostly uninhabited North America. Once pioneering began in New Mexico, Texas and California the previous exploration routes became wagon trails for commerce linking the early missions and settlements. In New Mexico and Texas settlers followed the “Rio Bravo del Norte” todays “Rio Grande” river; but in “Alta California” or Northern California Spanish Catholic priests marked the trails for travelers by spreading poppy seeds which would give color the following year and later become the state flower. By 1906 Californians began placing distinct bells to show early automobile enthusiasts the route.

We named our company El Camino Real Financial Advisors in the same spirit and goal in mind, to help investors find their way.

Why I Became A Financial Advisor, Planner, Certified Financial Fiduciary and Started Coaching

cont.

3)  After doing a lot of research I discovered that 95% of mutual funds didn't outperform the SP500 index which lead me to believe that Indexing was the best way to accumulate wealth.  January 22, 1993 became a pivotal moment in time, the first tradable Index, the SP500 "SPY" ETF when public. That lead to a dramatic reduction in time  researching individual stocks and bonds and freed up more time to watch the market trends.

4)  Where there's money there's greed.  A top broker and branch manager once told me "I'll teach you how to take money from their [our clients] pocket and put it in yours."  He sounded like a use car salesman.  My thought was there's trillions of dollars in the financial markets; a person could make a honest living without stooping to dirty practices.  FINRA, the industry watchdog, later found he had cheated on an exam; he was "disbarred for life."

That’s why I became a Certified Financial Fiduciary®. In an industry often clouded by hidden fees and conflicting incentives, I wanted my clients to know—without a shadow of a doubt—that my advice is legally and ethically bound to their best interest. I wanted to remove the question, 'Is this good for me, or good for him?'

I started Coaching because I learned that money isn’t just about math; it’s about mindset. Life happens. Emotions derail logic. As a coach, I don’t just tell you what to do; I walk beside you to help you change your behavior, overcome fear, and actually stick to the plan we built.

Finally, I realized a majority of Americans don't need a $3,500 financial plan.  Most Americans are below the $15,000,000 estate tax limit so all most of us need is just a very simple plan that includes simple investments mixed with simple life insurance etc.   At El Camino Real Financial Advisors we believe in the KISS method or  "Keep it Simple Stupid" plan.
